Victor Manuel Mercado was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico in “el barrio de Capay” on January 9th, 1940. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, December 11th, 2020. Those closest to him called him “Lilé”.
Lilé was one of five children born to Jose Mercado Aqueda and Juana Chico Rosario. He will forever be remembered by his siblings, Gonzalo, Adalberto, Carmelo, and Pedro. He came to the United States in 1952 at the age of 12 where he worked odd jobs until he was old enough to work as a metal welder. He met the love of his life, Elba Doble, in 1960 at the age of 23 and were married on July 22, 1962. They were married 58 years. Together they had five children: Victor Jr., Danny, Jaime, Amarilis, & Sammy. His grandchildren were the apple of his eyes and one of his greatest joys: Erik, Manny, Samantha, Kiana, Danielle, Brian, Chelsea, Tony, Anthony, Jonathan, and Bianca. He was blessed and super excited to experience the joy of four great-grandbabies: Avery, Elijah, Josiah, and Eilah. His niece Dolly, was like his second daughter. Oh how he loved teaching her how to play baseball when she was little!
Lilé was probably the biggest sports fan – he loved his YANKEES! But did you know he was also the BEST pool player EVER! We will miss going to Yankee Stadium with Lilé and sitting in his living room to watch the baseball games, Sunday night football, and March Madness just to name a few! His departure has left a huge void in our lives! He will forever live in our hearts and in the memories we created throughout the years!
We love you Pa!
