Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, February 19th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., in Daniel J Schaefer Funeral Home, 4124 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11232 for Stephonia Adele McPherson, who died suddenly January 28, 2021. She was 52 years old.
Stephonia was born February 19, 1968 in Coatesville Pennsylvania to George Thompson Jr and Hattie Pettus. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY where she spent most of her life. In spite of giving birth to her eldest child Tyeisha at the age of 15 Stephonia continued her education, obtained her GED and certification in executive secretarial studies from MTJ Business School in 1986. Stephonia married her childhood friend Alphonso McPherson December of 1986. Stephonia had two additional children, Rishena and Jalessa. Stephonia loved her three daughters and thought of them as her legacy. While married, Stephonia lived in Oklahoma, Washington and Germany. While in Germany she operated her own home daycare service. Although she traveled many places Brooklyn, New York was home.
Stephonia held jobs in various fields; she dedicated 25 years of service to our veterans working at the Veterans Administration Hospital. She began her career as a medical clerk and through hard work and advanced to Supervisory Medical Support Assistant. Stephonia was loved and respected by colleagues and patients alike.
Stephonia had a strong personality and a tough exterior. Under that tough exterior was a bubbly personality and a smile that would light up a room. She loved to tell her “truth jokes” and when she laughed you couldn’t help but laugh with her. She had an open door policy and was always there to listen and offer her words of wisdom. She touched the lives of many and left a lasting impression. She was a mother to many, a friend to most and left a lasting impression on all among us.
Stephonia is survived by her three daughters Tyeisha, Rishena and Jalessa. She leaves behind two sisters Ethel and Janesia; four grandchildren Damien, Harmony, Damion, and Damitri, four nephews, and one niece.
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond's gift of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the autumn's gentle rain, When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush. Of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night, Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.
