Martina Machado affectionately known to many as “Tinita” passed away peacefully. She was 87 years young. She was born July 1st, 1934 in Camuy Puerto Rico to Juan Roman and Mercedes Diaz and was the 11th child of thirteen children. At 16 years old she married Thomas Guzman (deceased) and had 2 children John Bautista Guzman (deceased) and Jose Manuel Guzman. She divorced and relocated to Brooklyn New York with her 2 sons and extended family. She met and married Juan Machado (deceased) 12 years later. Together they had 3 more children Milagros Lara, Jaime Machado and Maira Machado.
She was a home maker and Mom to many in Brooklyn. Tinita loved to care for people. She conducted a day care service out of her home, embraced and loved each and every child as her own. She quickly learned their likes and dislikes and made sure their bellies were full before they left her home. She helped raised her grandchildren and great grandchildren and often spoiled them with their favorite foods and treats.
For many years, she looked after some of her older siblings and cared for them in their time of need and hardship. She enjoyed feeding everyone. You were guarantee a full plate of food, and a cup of coffee with every meal and during the hot Brooklyn summer months, an icy cold can of Budweiser too.
She was a wise woman and often gave advice in form of proverbs. She was always guided by her faith and love of God and relied heavily on prayer in good times and especially in hard times.
Martina is survived by her children; son Jose Manuel Guzman, daughter Milagros Lara, son Jaime Machado and his wife Annmarie Rodriguez-Machado, her daughter Maira Machado and her husband Aaron Greene; grandchildren Daniel Guzman, Lisa Guzman, Rachel Martina Sofia Guzman – Garcia and her husband Omar Garcia, Christopher Rodriguez, Derrick James Machado, Kevin John Machado, Ashley Danielle Perez, Chelsea Lara, Briana Lara, Aiden Jacob Greene, Zachery Adam Greene and her great grandchildren Amanda Lee Medina, Leah Rae Santiago, Devin John Guzman, Christian Daniel Guzman, Donte Omar Garcia, Jaidon Michael Garcia and Thea Renae Garcia; plus many nephews and nieces.
