Obituary

José Rafael (Artemio) Domínguez was born on January 20, 1945 in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic and died in New York City, on February 16, 2021. His (deceased) parents were Jacinto Medina and Ángela Trinidad Domínguez. He is the youngest of two children. Artemio was unable to pursue a formal education, but he helped support his family as an employee at a local factory. His work ethic and his desire to seek opportunities for his family led him to immigrate to the United States of America in the 1970s. In 1977, José Rafael married Denis Del Carmen Abréu Domínguez. They were married for forty-one years, before being widowed in 2019.
Artemio settled with his family in downtown Booklyn, N.Y. and made a living as a maintenance manager for Lefrak City, a prestigious company in the Queens, N.Y. area. During the 1980s and 90s he was a loving father figure, with a kind, caring, generous personality and always with a friendly smile, willing to practice solidarity with others, notably with his neighbors on his Baltic Street community.
After twenty years of service in the US, Artemio retired to the Dominican Republic. Throughout the years he kept traveling to New York City and the Dominican Republic to be active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always there for them with their ups and downs. He was always ready and able to provide love and support. His family is very grateful for all that he gave. It was known that he loved not just watching baseball, but analyzing it, going fishing, keeping up with Dominican politics, chatting with friends, and making his daily runs to the supermarket. Artemio is survived by his six children: Rafael, Jaime, Edward, Orquídea, José, and Johan; his grandchildren: Josenia, Jean-Paul, Julio Alberto, Mía and Isiah; great-grandchildren: Manny Junior and Madison. He is also survived by his brother, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, many nephews, nieces and friends who will miss his warm embrace and infectious smile.
