Mamie Moore

July 5, 1942 ~ May 26, 2018 (age 75)

Mamie Ruth Locke Moore was born to Katherine Keaton and Clifford Locke in Wilmington NC on the 5th of July in 1942. She was the 2nd of of 3 children following her sister Lucille and before her brother Sonny. Due to her love of chewing gum Mamie was given the nickname of "Chew". She met the love of her life James Rudolph Moore who was affectionately called "Moe"and they soon moved to New York City in 1962. They settled in Brooklyn NY and welcomed their 1st born Jettina Moore in 1964. Chew worked as a seamstress by day and was the life of the party by night. In her spare time Chew was known as the neighborhood seamstress. Her creations were one of a kind, and sewn with love in every stitch; everyone knew you had to be careful not to get stuck with a pin that was left behind.

In 1973 Chew and Moe welcomed a son Dover and then a daughter Takeenah in 1982 at home by herself in the bed; Chew carried and birthed both children while working a full time job in a Warehouse and only having 1 leg after a terrible car accident.

She attended the Brooklyn Literacy Program where she learned how to master the art of reading, met 1st Lady Babrbara Bush and she was published in a national newspaper due to her efforts.

She later went on to become a published author, writing books about her travels, pets, and her 1st born granddaughter's arrival into this world. She accomplished all of this while still being the life of the party!!

Chew was a second mother to most, always caring and giving. She lived to make others feel welcomed and loved, and would give a stranger the very shirt off of her back.

Chew is now resting with her husband Moe, mother Kitty; father Cliff, her sister Lucille, her brother Kenny, and her sister/friend Betty.

She leaves behind her daughters: Jettina & Takeenah, her son: Dover, Grandsons: Kevin, Rahmel, Christian, & Malaki, Granddaughters: Neesha, Ashanti, & Azurah, and her Great Grandson Julian, her brother Sonny, her sisters Liz & Rose, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She also leaves to mourn a host of kids and grand kids that Chew loved and cared for.

Mamie Ruth Locke Moore was incredibly strong and a fighter but she passed away on Saturday May 26th, 2018 at the age of 75. She will be missed by many whom loved and cherished her immensely.
